This week’s wine is one that comes from Gouveia Vineyards which is a young vineyard; the winery was established in 1999, in Wallingford, Connecticut. I have chosen two wines that my family and I enjoy from this vineyard.
My first choice is the Cabernet Franc that is barreled in French oak for around 16 months. This wine is surprisingly earthy for a young vineyard; it is full bodied with ripe berries. The finish of this wine is complex starting with a tight sharper finish then ends smoothly.
If you are looking for a very smooth wine my second favorite from this vineyard is the Stone House Red. The Stone House Red can be enjoyed either in your favorite goblet or heated to a warm mulled wine. This wine is barreled for 12 months in American Oak and is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both of these wines are great choices for this week.
If you are planning to visit the vineyard take your time and enjoy the views when driving up to this pebble road up to this stone faced vineyard.
